Angela Schulz

Dr. Angela Schulz is a Senior Physician in the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). A specialist in neuropediatrics, palliative medicine, and rare childhood neurodegenerative disorders, her work focuses on the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCLs), a group of conditions known as childhood dementias. She leads clinical care and research within UKE’s NCL program, coordinating clinical trials, patient registries, and translational research to improve diagnostics and therapies.

In 2025, Dr. Schulz was awarded a Clinician Scientist Professorship for Rare Diseases to advance understanding and treatment of childhood dementia. Her recent research explores long-term outcomes of enzyme replacement therapy in CLN2 disease and early diagnostic approaches, including newborn screening. She is an active member of the German Society for Neuropediatrics, the European Paediatric Neurology Society, and international lysosomal disease networks, contributing widely to improving care and research for children with rare neurological diseases.
