Jennifer Vermilion

Jennifer Vermilion, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester (NY) where she also directs the University of Rochester Batten Center of Excellence (URBC). Dr. Vermilion received her BS (Molecular and Cellular Biology) from Vanderbilt University and her MD from the University of Rochester. She completed residency training in Child Neurology at the University of Rochester, where she stayed on to complete a dual fellowship in Pediatric Movement Disorders and Experimental Therapeutics. She then joined the faculty at the University of Rochester in 2019. As a faculty member, she completed a fellowship program through the University of Rochester NeuroNEXT program and now serves as a NeuroNEXT Co-I. Clinically, she specializes in pediatric movement disorders.

Dr. Vermilion is the Chair of the Batten Disease Centers of Excellence Program, which includes 5 Centers of Excellence and 4 Affiliate Programs). She maintains an active research program focused on the Neuronal Ceroid Lipofucinosoes (NCLs) and pediatric tic disorders. She leads the URBC NCL Natural History study, which has been collecting data on the NCLs for over 20 years. Dr. Vermilion is on the editorial board for Pediatric Neurology. She previously served on the editorial board for the Resident and Fellow Section of the Neurology journal and on the Scientific Program Committee at the Child Neurology Society..
