Miriam Nickel is a specialist in Paediatrics and Youth Medicine, with further qualifications in Palliative Medicine, Specialized Pain Therapy and Nutritional Medicine. Her clinical focus is Neuropediatrics, and she works in the Center for Obstetrics and Paediatrics within the Department of Paediatrics at UKE.

She serves as the functional senior physician (Funktionsoberärztin) responsible for the coordination of the international patient registry DEM-CHILD and for clinical trials related to the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL) – a group of rare neurodegenerative disorders in children.
