Yael Shiloh-Malawsky, MD

Professor of Neurology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, board certified in Pediatrics, Child Neurology and Epilepsy. Earned an MD from Tel Aviv University in Israel, completed in Pediatric Residency at Tel Hashomer, Israel, Child Neurology Residency and Epilepsy Fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Clinical and research focus in neurogenetics, gene-based therapeutics and neuroimmunology. Clinical core leader of UNC Epilepsy NeuroGenetics Initiative (ENGI), director of UNC Batten Disease Center by the BDSRA, UNC Rett Syndrome Center of Excellence by the IRSF, and DRPLA Center of Excellence by CureDRPLA. Principal investigator of clinical studies in genetic disorders and epilepsy including clinical trials, natural history and registry studies. Principal investigator of individualized n-of-2 ASO clinical trial for treatment of an ultra-rare CLN3 mutation, of an n-of-1 ASO clinical trial of ASXL3 Bainbridge-Ropers syndrome (BRPS), and gene therapy studies. Principal investigator of clinical trials that lead to FDA approved commercial drugs, and investigator-initiated investigational new drug trials.
